"My students become skilled "actors who sing and singers who act".  Whether in an audition or in performance, attention to only one of these skills without the other greatly diminishes the impression your performance makes on your audience. You need to be strong at both."

Results You Will See!

In this studio:
  • You will learn to perform with good healthy technique.  Learn how to use your "bag of tricks" as needed for easy, relaxed and healthy singing.

  •  You will become a good actor and "story teller".  It is vital to "act the story".  Every song is a monologue put to music.  There is a character in the song who has intention and is motivated to a goal.  You will learn to master the steps of character building in the song.

  • We create an audition/performance repertoire book of songs.  Each collection will contain songs personally suited to the your personality, character type(s), and vocal abilities as the "go to" book for auditions and performances.  All songs are in your best keys, and choices are from various styles: up-tempo, comic, ballad from various genres used in today's Musical theater shows.

  • Last but not at all least, you will grow in confidence!  No matter the skill level or experience, without a sense of security and the knowledge of how your voice and body work together to create beautiful sound, there can be no confidence.  You will get to know over time how to use your own body and vocal instrument and what results are possible.

Programs & Fees

I meet with every student first for an assessment.  This tells me about their level of skill and commitment. It also gives them a chance to see how I work.  Upon completing the assessment, we decide which program is the best one.
Available programs are:
Private one hour or45 minute sessions
lessons are weekly, charged by the month
Bi-monthly for an hour each
Fees will be discussed at the time of the assessment.  I will also talk about fees by phone in a pre-visit.  713-349-8135

My Philosophy & Bio

This is what I teach...

"Everything I know about singing and performing comes from 40 plus years of training, performing, creating shows and the acquired knowledge of experience.  Everything I have learned and am still learning as a full time performer becomes a part of my coaching tools. My students get the benefit of it all.

We work on all popular music forms, but with a particular emphasis on the Musical Theater and Cabaret.  In my experience, healthy singing technique and acting skills can best be learned in songs the are "character based". All songs require you to become the person in the song, to connect directly with their desires and intentions. Then your goal as a performer is to share that with your audience. When you feel the connection created from an authentic sharing with them, the experience can be magic!

A bit about my background...

I started taking voice lessons at 16.  At Louisiana State University, I majored in Music and Drama and went on to study acting in New York at Circle int he Square Theater School. I became an Equity member (professional union) in 1976. I studied singing with Maurice Jampol (coach to Lisa Minelli, Donna McKecknie and Barbra Streisand) for 2 years, then with Michael Jones, coach to NYU music and drama students and most recently with Sally Morgan, the creator of the "Sing Like you Speak" method I now use with my students.  More about my performance activities here.

In the late 1980's I became very interested in the performance genre of Cabaret.  I spent several years appearing in New York Cabaret rooms learning this craft and studying there with Christopher Denny, Barry Kleinbort and Steve Ross.  I began writing my own shows in 1990 and to this day consider myself a singing actress.  I love to connect with the story, the character and my audience on an intimate level through wonderful music."
